Take it from me: If you suffer from depression or anxiety and other treatments have not been successful, please consider TMS.

Who am I to make such a suggestion?  I am your spouse, your friend, your family member, teacher and neighbor, and I have had severe depression and anxiety since the age of 12.  Until recently, I managed to be relatively functional with the help of therapy and anti-depressants, an anti-anxiety medication and a sleep aid.  To be sure, it has been a battle in a lengthy war.  I felt pain and struggled, with periods of crippling bouts and thoughts of suicide.  I have stayed at home between full-time work and my children’s extra curricular activities, where it felt a bit more safe.  I was able to get by with only the closest of people knowing of my most important job:  survival.

However, in recent months, giving recurring symptoms, my psychiatrist had asked me to consider electric-shock therapy.  If you are reading this, you likely know of the potential side effects of ECT, and while I had considered it previously — even inquired — I hesitated as it seemed to be the last chance.  Then I heard two reports on National Public Radio about the positive work in TMS.  Together with my doctor, we found a TMS provider in Tranquility.

As a writer, I could conceivably write a book about my experiences so far, but as this forum has room for a brief post, here it is:  Tranquility TMS Center gave me HOPE.  But the team also gave more.  In the weeks of treatment for both depression and anxiety, to which I could drive myself and remain awake throughout, I entered remission.  I am no longer on my anti-depressant and am managing on a low-dosage anti-anxiety medication and sleep aid.  I have begun behavioral therapies to support this period post treatment.

Although I am trained to be cautious and do not know the long-term prognosis, I can attest to relatively rapid relief.  The life coaches at Tranquility provided inspiration to continue self care and have been in touch since, and will continue to be a presence, as needed.  I would be happy to provide an update down the line, but for now, I am able to enjoy life with my family more than I have — ever.

You don’t know me, or maybe you do.  I am the person with a slightly lighter step and wider smile.  You are seeing me more because I am going out more often, farther and wider.  TMS has rekindled the fire we need to live a productive life.  I wish you every success in your decisions and trust that a real-life testimonial like mine could help.”
